Who Are We?
July 20, 2009
Of course, you knew I would get around to this, Proudly Zimbabwean. It is my passion. I believe that this idea will be a model that will be emulated across Africa as we seek to create sustainable community development on our marginalized continent.
So who are we? I shall first say what I think we must be. We are passionate and committed people, within and outside Zimbabwe, and our friends; uniting to bring democracy and prosperity to every Zimbabwean. That is the vision. There is no political agenda now or in the future. Just a Non-Governmental Organisation.
Does this vision resonate with you? Do you find your heart and passion stirred by the statement? So why are you not clamouring to be part of this initiative? Yes clamouring. Since this is my blog I can afford the strong language hey?
I would die to give a hand to an initiative of this nature. I would insist on contributing in my own manner if the conditions are not acceptable. It is my country and I must have a hand when the initiative is this open.
I think Zimbabweans would love to associate with success but do not want the cost. The effort scares us. I am that way too. But I look around everyday and see things I can change if I only had the money or the tool or the persons to pull with.
And as a collective, we are the most talented Africans of this generation. But we watch as our children do not go to school or write those despicable non-standard ZIMSEC exams. There are things we will change if we unite as one and speak with one voice.
We have the talented among us; the lawyers, technicians, PR people, etc. Imagine all that talent actively engaged in seeking sustainable initiatives for the homeland. And all can be done over internet. Let us not talk progress. Let us do progress. Are you a Zimbabwean? Then tell me why your hand is not involved? Just one reason.
I know you have something to say. Begin now, just say it.

Hey Fungai
Yes you seem to have hit the nail on the head. It ssems to be an issue indemic with Zimbabweans, that we are quick to associate ourselves with success and take glory for the hardwork of others, yet when it comes to the hard work we are scattered far and wide.
No, I am not one of those. I love the idea of hard work. And to see the reward in the face of those we help is more reward than we deserve, so count me in.

my dear brother rob
i know i can count on you. i am the one who let you down by not responding sooner. but it will not happen again. i will be in touch and i know that you are good friends with tina so i look forward to great news from that corner. i am not looking at you standing on the sidelines, but being in the eye of the storm. thank you for writing.

Why have I not given my hand? A tricky question? But I will try to answer. Number one as is right now we zimbos have been made to believe that whatever we want means nothing by the forces in charge, so why waste my hand in something that i know is doomed. So instead of starting something of my own to cater for whatever need I see its better just to associate myself with you for example because somehow your hand managed to breakthrough were many failed.

hi nelson
please forgive me as i took the liberty to edit your post so that others can read it easily. thank you very much for taking time to comment.
please join us and bring your hand and let us begin a revolution. i am not even trying to do a difficult thing and i think all zimbabweans can identify with this initiative and be able to contribute something. but most of all we must now be united. we must form clubs wherever we are and relate to each other. and remember home and the like. we have to show our love of the home. we must worry about the authorities but to a degree. we must be working to make sure this does not happen again.

Hey Fungai,
Bro just give me one reason on how you will take back children to school, how they will write ZIMSEC without your Proudly Zimbabwean getting involved in the political scene!!its not about ZIMSEC per se bro but upgrading the standards under ZIMSEC not doing away with it!!!so are you Proudly Cambridge??your ideas are noble but am afraid you may not be paying attention to the realities on the ground!!!a Non Governmental wont effect all these changes you envision my brother or is another attempt to suck donors funds as i suspect????am very skeptical fungai juust enligthen me on how you want to implement this on the ground??????????

hi Maidei
i do not know it all in terms of execution. i am praying that we will put our heads together and show each other the path. but in terms of the government, these are guys that feel threatened by a small church publication. if we do things looking at them we will not do anything. we have to carry the courage of our convictions. i am in zimbabwe. i am willing to take the fire.

so the we you know more about Proudly Zimbabwean, i will post more documents about the group here. our website will not carry allthe information as it is a holding site and our facebook page is currently advertising activities. education is not the only area we want to focus on. our vision is democracy and prosperity for every zimbabwean. we are not about donor funds. this initiative will be funded mostly by zimbabweans. if it was for donor funds, i would not be wasting time on facebook and blogs.
